FAQs

Nor Cal SUP FAQs – Answering your questions

Why Join the Nor Cal Fitness SUP Social club?

There are a number of reasons to join us on the water, here are a few:

One. As a working Mom of three I know that your best intentions to get in a paddle can be quickly sidelined if it is not “in the calendar.” Our SUP Social Club calendar is set up two months in advance making it easy to fit into your busy schedules. Each month, we will have 6-8 local paddles as well as one “destination paddle.” That’s 9 scheduled paddles a month, making it easy to pick which date and times work best for you.

Two. Making friends as an adult can be difficult. When you paddle with us you already know that the people you will meet hold many of the same interests as you: Health, Relaxation, Adventure, Travel, and Community ~ to top it off,  they know a perfect day always starts or ends with time on the water.

Three. Why go it alone? Nor Cal  SUP Social Club will help you paddle new waterways, exploring numerous portions of our local lakes, rivers and  reservoirs while paddling in the safety of a group.

Are kids welcome to paddle?

Yes, This is a great way to spend time WITH your family. Please note that each child needs to be accompanied by an adult, be good swimmers, use leashes and wear Personal Flotation Devices (PFD’s).

Do I need to know how to paddle or be in ripping shape?

Yes, you need to know the basics of paddling to join us on one of our Social paddles. But just in case you are brand new to the sport, we do offer beginner classes once a month. Please check the calendar for the next available time.

As far as being in “ripping shape,” no. All our paddles are “out and backs” we can pick you up on the way back so you can go at your own pace. Remember, this is supposed to be “FUN”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is this a coached Social SUP club?

No, there is no formal coaching but you will pick up “tips” from your fellow paddlers. The Social club will hold mock races and work on skills at several of the paddles. We also will have “guest paddlers” from the SUP community who will coach us on skills, racing, nutrition, equipment and all things SUP.

Why a monthly fee?

Although many of the local riding and running clubs can park outside the toll booths and ride/run in to use the trail system in the area, we have to submit our paddle schedule and “rent” time on the water from our state parks. Therefore, we must collect a small monthly “Club Fee.” Each member will be responsible for any entry tolls involved to the various waterways we visit. We suggest buying an annual State park pass ($125). The club fee is month to month and although the fee is small it can be a motivating factor to not miss a paddle!

Do you need your own paddleboard?

Yes, we are not a rental company. We will launch from Willow Creek a few times a month so that rentals will be available to those who want to rent a board and come tryout our Social Club. Also, California Canoe & Kayak has weekly rental rates.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes, our four legged paddle buddies are always welcome!
